Editorial
Mera has something for everyone. It is four journals in one:
The international section provides an opportunity for international organisations to communicate with Africa's health professionals about projects they are involved in or outcomes of significant research that needs disseminating further.
Topics covered in recent issues include updates on malaria from WHO's Roll Back Malaria Department; HMOs and the delivery of healthcare; news from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis & Malaria; a supplement on recent advances in child health; and an article on drug resistant TB in diabetes mellitus.
Africa Health: Since 1978 Africa Health has served the needs of
African healthcare professionals and the industry supplying them. It is a unique
review journal with a huge following. The specially commissioned feature
articles cover a wide range of topics in a relevant and practical fashion. In
addition, regular sections such as letters, news, and a clinical quiz provide a
secure starting point for the readers. They are also kept in touch with key
research papers published in the international medical journals via the
Medicine Digest abstract service; and selected papers are discussed in more
detail in the Clinical Review section.
African Health Sciences:
This is an internationally refereed journal publishing original
article on research, clinical practice, public health policy,
planning, implementation and evaluation, in the health and related
sciences relevant to Africa and the tropics. Edited in Kampala by
Professor James Tumwine, it is an African Publication of the
Makerere Medical School.
Journal Choice: A new initiative to help provide greater profile and
presence to medical journals originating from within Africa. A guest reviewer is
appointed for each edition, and he or she selects articles of interest from a
range of journals submitted (and if you produce one, and we haven't selected
from it... just let us know). The articles are then reproduced in full text,
plus a short promotional listing about the journal of origin and how to
subscribe etc.
Diabetes International and the
African Journal of Respiratory Medicine:
Both journals publish review and
original articles. The philosophy of the journals is to be practical
and relevant to health professionals in sub-Saharan Africa.
